Mood swings

Part of what it is to be human is that our moods change. Some days we feel better, others worse. Sometimes life moves forward with a lightness, at other times it is a heavy headwind. These shifts are like the weather, they are natural parts of existence and the movement and eternal process of life. This is not necessarily a problem in itself. But there are times when the shifts seem to stop, when we get stuck in negative patterns, hopeless feelings and dark thoughts. In these moments, it can sometimes seem that things will never be good again, that this is how it will always be. Time feels different and a day can seem like an eternity. Things that used to be fun no longer bring any joy. Life loses color and is perceived to lack meaning. It is in this most desperate and hopeless time that we can have the darkest thoughts and impulses.

Depression

Sadness and depression can be a persistent condition and is often very difficult to cope with. It is common to feel a palpable sense of meaninglessness, a lack of joy and interest, and recurrent thoughts of death. It can be hard to get out of bed in the morning and difficult to carry out everyday chores and activities that used to come easily. Sometimes there is a heavy sadness, in other cases an echoing emptiness. It looks different for everyone, but the suffering is never in doubt. It may be due to life events beyond our control, a life that is becoming stagnant, or perhaps a feeling of having lost control of one's life. There are many factors at play and often it is a combination of several factors that create the conditions for depression. When it's at its worst, it's important to remember that there are ways to get out of this state.

Psychotherapy for depression in Gothenburg

There are different ways to recover from depression. The most proven way is through psychotherapeutic counseling. Through counseling, we can get hold of the parts of ourselves that are still capable of seeing meaning, feeling desire, experiencing joy, being curious. These parts are still there and can be rediscovered. In psychotherapy, it is possible to find out what has created this state, what keeps it alive and what can be done to get through it. Depression shows that something is not right and this something can be understood. One of the difficulties with depression is that it makes it hard to do things, even things that we know can be good for us. It often makes it difficult to ask for help and to cross the threshold to start the process of moving forward.
