Stress

Modern humans are faced with high demands, both at work and in their personal lives, and in the art of juggling these two worlds. Excessive demands, from the environment and ourselves, combined with a lack of resources and low individual control, lead to high levels of stress. Humans tolerate stress well for short periods, but are not designed to handle high levels of stress over a long period of time. If we do, it can have major consequences for our well-being and energy levels. The body starts talking to us in its own way and if we don't listen, it tends to start screaming to make itself heard. Exhaustion is an unpleasant experience that forces us to change our lives in drastic ways. Sometimes we can see in advance what is about to happen, but sometimes we do not understand it until we crash. From a societal perspective, it is of course reprehensible that this is the case. But stress, exhaustion and burnout are unfortunately concepts that we have become accustomed to in our time.

Get help to regain a more balanced life

Whether you feel that you have reached an excessive level of stress or have already become exhausted as a result, help is available. In these situations, the need often arises to both review everyday life and its chores, but also to explore what parts of ourselves it is that make us fall into these patterns. Much of the contemporary prevalence of stress has to do with structural and economic factors and how we as a society view work, productivity and value. But in each case, there are usually ways to understand why we are affected by these powerful social forces. For some, it's hard to say no for fear of being a nuisance. For another, it's a reluctance to show weakness and shortcomings. For a third, work is so tied to one's identity that it is difficult to understand who one is beyond it. Opportunities may arise to rethink life and its conditions, to reassess and find priorities that are more in line with what we want and need. While there is great suffering involved in being in these states, the breaking point actually also offers a new space for change and development.
